Neighborhood Crime

It seems that many put aside the fact that the crime rate has increased throughout the entire country, maybe it is just that people choose not to talk about it.  It unfortunately does exist and getting worse so now is the time for all friends, family and neighbors alike to join together as a team to secure your neighborhoods.  By doing so, this can definitely help reduce the potential criminal from coming to your area.

Although it may take some work in the beginning to assemble your friends, family and neighbors it will be worth it in the long run.  By organizing if one isn’t already, a neighborhood watch program and asking your local police department to get involved you can work towards achieving this goal.

Better safety definitely comes in numbers.  By doing this you will create more power in your community, get to know the neighbor’s better and establish a growing relationship between you and your local police department.  By creating crime prevention techniques along with the police you can give your community a sense of security.  Your neighborhood will develop a more united front.

Crime Neighborhood watch has been in existence for quite sometime now, it’s a joint effort between citizens and your local police department.  Maybe you already have this in place in your area.

You are not required to put a lot of time by going to meetings, etc., maybe once a month, you will never be asked to take part in any activity that would possibly cause you harm, you can be sure that is left up to the big guys, your local police department.

By assembling such a group, you will learn crime prevention methods from your local authority.   You, along with all your neighbors will each keep an eye out for one another, your surroundings and report any activity you believe to be suspicious.  The common criminal will not want to be in your area if he or she knows what you are doing.  By posting signs indicating you are a crime watch neighborhood, they will surely take themselves elsewhere.

By getting involved in this group you will learn many crime prevention techniques and what to look for.

  • Take care of an injury
  • How to best identify a suspicious person
  • How to identify a vehicle being used in
    suspected criminal activity
  • Signs to watch out for before entering a house
or apartment that may be in the process of being
  • What to do in an emergency situation
  • See a suspicious person on your street? What should you do
  • Identifying stolen merchandise
  • Recognizing an auto theft in progress
  • How should you protect your house or apartment
  • Recognizing a burglary in progress
  • What to do to protect yourself and your family

It isn’t difficult to begin your neighborhood watch group.  Make up a flyer, or start calling others to arrange a date and time for all to gather.  Perhaps have it at your home or another neighbor’s home.  You will want to make the time and date as convenient as you possibly can so you will have a great turn out.  Once you have done this, call your local police department to arrange for an officer to come out or start with them providing free literature.   Policemen can not be everywhere!  It would be an excellent choice in purchasing Spy Equipment.   View our world class selection of spy equipment and accessories when you shop at Spy Equipment Plus. Staying Safe While Using Public Transportation

If you are in need of taking public transportation always make sure you are near other people while waiting.

If while waiting you find yourself alone in a darkened area, if at all possible make sure you are near a lighted facility with activity going on.

When you step into the public transport vehicle take note of those that are around you.  If you feel someone is acting in a suspicious manner inform the driver.

When the transport vehicle is near empty or empty of occupants, sit yourself as close to the driver as you can.

If you are being bothered by another individual in the vehicle let the driver know as soon as you can, at this point you may want to change your seat if possible.

At time of your destination point take note to someone also exiting the vehicle.  If at any point you simply feel as if you are being followed, seek out the closest occupied structure and ask for help.

If you have to travel on public transportation in the evening hours, always try to exit the vehicle in a well-lit area.  Stay out of unlit streets if at all possible.

Staying Safe while driving your Vehicle

Always ensure that your vehicle is in good mechanical order, gassed up and has good tires whenever you plan on leaving for a trip.

Make sure your interior light is working properly so you can look inside the vehicle prior to entering it.  There’s always a chance someone managed to get in and hide.

Remember to always put the garage door down prior to leaving your home if applicable.

As much as we complain about parking costs it is much wiser to park your vehicle where there is an attendant present.  Make sure you lock your doors and if you need to leave keys with the attendant make sure you give him your vehicle key only.

While out shopping and you acquire packages, don’t leave them out in plain view.  This is an invitation to a thief.  Never leave your
cell phone, GPS Unit or any form of electronic device in plain view.  Always place these items in the trunk of your vehicle.

When you are out and about in the night hours, try to park in well-lit areas.

Make sure you lock the car doors immediately upon entering your vehicle. If someone approaches you in a harmful manner while you are in your vehicle, sound the horn until help arrives.

If you get a flat tire and don’t feel safe pulling over at that point, drive the car until you get to a better location.

While driving if you believe you are being followed, drive to the nearest police station immediately.

Safety for Elevator Rides

If someone is already on the elevator you plan to ride in and they appear to be conspicuous, do not enter, and wait for the next one.

When riding by yourself with another occupant, if at all possible, always stand near the control panel.  This way if something should happen you can push all the buttons which should hopefully trigger someone to come to the aid of the elevator.

If you are riding the elevator and someone enters you don’t quite feel you want to ride with, get off prior to the doors closing.

Upon reaching the desired floor, before exiting, take note of the corridor for possible suspicious activity.

Thoughts to keep in mind for Personal and Home Safety!

We all know that we should not open the door on auto pilot just because we hear a knock or the doorbell,  if you don’t know who is at your front stoop please ask for the person’s identification prior to opening up your home.  Certainly if they can’t or won’t provide you with such identification do not let them in under any circumstances.  If your home does not have entrance doors with a peephole you should consider purchasing a door with one.

All homes should have entrance doors equipped with dead-bolt locks.  If you are out while it’s dark, you should consider leaving a few lights on throughout your home.

Never leave an extra key lying around especially surrounding the entrance areas.  A burglar will surely look for keys in this same area.

Be careful with garage doors.  If you don’t have an automatic opener you should purchase a heavy duty lock, this will give you extra
security prevention from burglars prying and entering.

Take stock of your valuables, write down exactly what you own and keep it in a safe place.  If you are leaving your home for any length of time it would be wise to stop all mail deliveries, hook lighting in your home on timers to go off at variable times and notify someone close to you, a neighbor or even the police department of your absence.  Your friends, family, and local police will surely give you a hand in keeping periodic checks on your home.

You should also have your lawn maintained while you are away.  A disheveled looking lawn is a sure sign of no one being at home.

If you are in a community where you are fairly close to your neighbors, help them out, if you see something that doesn’t seem right, report it.  They will only return the favor for you if needed in the future.

If you are an apartment dweller you should really consider installing an intercom system to your main entrance.  If you live in an apartment building which comes equipped with an intercom system make sure it is in working condition and if not have the landlord correct the problem.

It is a wise decision to not let unknown people into your apartment dwelling.  Let them ring the person on who they intend to visit.  If one should ask you to open the dwelling for one reason or another I would be very skeptical and politely tell them you aren’t allowed to do so.  You can then refer them to the superintendent of the building.

Don’t disregard seeing a conspicuous person lurking about the building.  Contact the police department and your building superintendent as soon as you can.

We all know that all that has been said here is really a matter of using common sense, however it is true that many of us at one time or another disregard our common sense.  Maybe we are hurried, maybe we are in the middle of something important, remember this is important.  Observance of these basic rules utilizing our common sense one can decrease the odds on becoming the next victim of a robbery or home invasion where the end results can be fatal.

Helpful tips to keep in mind while out and about during evening hours

Always keep your travels to well lit areas and never if at all possible go into dark, unlit streets and alleyways.  While walking keep yourself to the opposite side of the road, always face oncoming traffic so you can see what’s coming at you.

Better safety comes in high numbers!  If possible keep yourself surrounded by a group of people.  Bring friends with you while walking.  A would-be robber will be less likely to bother you if you are with two or more individuals as a group.

If you must take public transportation, wait for the bus, taxi or whatever means you need to travel in, take caution to the area you are in while waiting.  Try to stick to well lit streets with a lot of activity happening around you.

Always be very careful when approaching and entering your vehicle, someone could be waiting for you on the other side of the car, possibly in your car.  Make sure your interior light is working properly.  Always stick to parking your vehicle in
highly-lit areas.  Use your keys as a weapon, trigger the panic alarm while getting closer to your vehicle.

If you choose to carry a weapon of any kind, make sure you know how to use it properly. Also remember, if you choose to pull your weapon on someone you better be prepared to use it.  Threatening with a
weapon doesn’t go over too well.  If you decide to take this route you shouldn’t have any doubt in your mind about using it no matter what it is and how you may or may not harm someone.

Crime on the streets in many large US cities is on the rise and has also become more widespread in smaller communities

While out and about you may want to keep these handy tips in mind to help prevent you or someone you love from an aggressive attacker.

Prior to leaving your home make sure all doors, windows and garage are locked and secure.
Try not to carry large sums of money, if you must then do not carry it all in the same spot. Keep as little as possible in your wallet, place your cash in pockets, a money wrap and yes your socks.

While traveling it is recommended you do this with another person, especially after dark.

For all us women who carry a purse, carry minimal dollars inside. Keep those credit cards you do not necessarily need at the moment at home, only bring must have essentials with you, your driver’s license, one credit card and limited amounts of cash. Try to conceal these items on your person rather than in your purse. By do so it may help reduce the opportunity of a large loss in the event you are mugged.

Carrying your purse around your shoulder, neck or wrist can result in you being injured. If someone were to grab it from you the strapping may not be strong enough and can throw you off balance while being yanked from you. Some purse snatch victims have been thrown off balance & received
concussions, broken hips, arms or legs.
Don't carry anything more valuable than you can afford to lose. Never bring more than you actually need to have with you for the moment.
While traveling at night, try to stay on well-lit and heavily traveled roads.

Never hitchhike or accept rides from strangers. If you need to walk always keep to the side of the street of oncoming traffic. If someone should approach you in a threatening manner run to the opposite side of the road so you are always in the other direction of them.

Stay alert and beware of people who approach asking for directions; keep your distance.

It is suggested that you carry a second wallet with you only containing a few dollar bills and possibly an expired credit card. If you are confronted at gun point or with a knife then give the suspect the wallet the second wallet and try to memorize this person’s description for the police so they may possibly make an arrest quicker.
Upon returning home, especially in the dark, if you feel something doesn’t quite feel right, don't go in rather leave and call the police for assistance.
While driving in your car and you are being followed, never pull over, if you have any doubt at all about who is behind you, drive to the nearest police department.

Stun Guns are an Excellent choice in Self Protection!

In today's society with the crime rate continuing to soar one has to stop and think about how they are going to protect themselves and their love ones.  Stun guns are a great source of weaponry.

Stun guns will interrupt the muscle movement when an individual comes in contact with the gun.  It will immediately drop a would-be attacker to the ground and disable them from movement.  This will allow you plenty of time to get to safety.

These tools come in many style choices and voltage levels.  The Lipstick Stun Gun is very compact and can be carried easily in your pocket or purse.  This small wonder carries 950,000 volts of power.  Other smaller forms of stun guns are the RUNT Stun Gun which comes in a choice of 2.5, 3.5 and 4.5 million volts.  These stun guns are nothing to sneeze about.  The RUNT Stun Gun is also very compact and fits easily in the hand making it very concealable and unknown to your attacker.  If you are looking for a stun gun which disguises itself as a cellphone the PRETENDER Stun Gun is a great option.  This stun gun affords 4.5 million volts, comes with LED lighting and mimics the look of a common cellphone.

 Pepper Sprays, TASER, Stun Guns

Are any self defense weapons better than the other? Pepper sprays, stun guns, TASER®, they all work great with preventing an attack. There is no quick response to this query. All self defense weapons have definite advantages and some disadvantages.

Pepper spray is a highly under rated self defense tool. It will immediately stop an assailant however it does have some restrictions. Pepper spray will cause inflammation of the eyes, throat, nose and the lungs. The attacker will experience a large amount of pain due to this which will allow you time to get to safety.

Most all pepper sprays out there today due spray a distance between eight to twenty feet which allows for distance between you and your attacker. The down side of using pepper spray is you have to be able to spray your potential attacker directly in the face area for maximum effectiveness. With that being said it is imperative you pay close attention to the direction of the wind while using pepper spray. It can potentially spray back at you and not hit your attacker. One must also be very cautious to the surroundings as if you are attacked from behind utilizing pepper spray would be very difficult.

Stun guns are an outstanding choice in a self-defense weapon. The electrical voltage will play havoc on the muscle function of your assailant. Utilizing a stun gun will hamper an individual’s neurological impulses which cause your attacker to have no control of his/her muscle function. Stun guns do cause some pain, however it’s the inability of muscle control that will take your attacker down and allow you to safety. One can use a stun gun anywhere on someone’s body so in this respect it would be much easier if someone should attack you from the rear. The disadvantage of using a stun gun is that you will have to have complete contact you’re your attacker in order to use the device.

The TASER® can stop a threat up to 15 feet away (4.5 meters), allowing you a safe distance to protect yourself and family from an attacker. If a close quarter defense is warranted, the TASER® doubles as a contact stun device to repel someone as a powerful and unexpected backup capability.

A TASER® can be conveniently discharged to work anywhere on the body, unlike other conventional weapons with a specified target area. This makes the TASER® more effective self-defense option by making it easier to stop a threat under an already stressful situation.

TASER® technology provides one of the only less-lethal means of stopping an attacker dead in his tracks, even if under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

No matter which self defense weapon you should choose, remember to make sure you ALWAYS have it with you and easy accessible. If you don’t carry it, it won’t help you!

The Lipstick stun gun, RUNT and PRETENDER stun guns are just a small taste of protection devices that we offer.  There are many other types of stun guns for your choosing.  Which one you should purchase is totally on a personal level of choice.  They are all great stun guns and will do the job effectively each and every time you should need to use it.  Stun guns are also very affordable, easy to use and will last for many years to come.

Nine Tips For Women In Emergency Situations

In daylight hours, refresh yourself of these things to do in an emergency situation...

These great tips were written by a police officer

Everyone should take 5 minutes to read this. It may save your life or a loved one's life!

This is for you, and for you to share with your wife, your children, everyone you know.  After reading these 9 crucial tips, give them to someone you care about.  It never hurts to be careful in this crazy world we live in.

1. Tip from Tae Kwon Do:   The elbow is the strongest point on your body.  If you are close enough to use it, do!

2.  If a robber asks for your wallet and/or purse,  DO NOT HAND IT TO HIM.
Toss it away from you.... Chances are that he is more interested in your wallet and/or purse than you, and he will go for the wallet/purse.

3. If you are ever thrown into the trunk of a car, kick out the back tail lights and stick your arm out the hole and start waving like crazy..  The driver won't see you, but everybody else will.  This has saved lives.

4. Women have a tendency to get into their cars after shopping, eating, working, etc., and just sit (doing their checkbook, or making a list, etc. DON'T DO THIS!)  The predator will be watching you, and this is the perfect opportunity for him to get in on the passenger side, put a gun to your head, and tell you where to go.  AS SOON AS YOU GET INTO YOUR CAR, LOCK THE DOORS AND LEAVE..  If someone is in the car with a gun to your head  DO NOT DRIVE OFF,  Repeat:  DO NOT DRIVE OFF!

Instead gun the engine and speed into anything, wrecking the car.  Your Air Bag will save you.  If the person is in the back seat they will get the worst of it.  As soon as the car crashes bail out and run.  It is better than having them find your body in a remote location.

5. A few notes about getting into your car in a parking lot, or parking garage:

  • Be aware: look around you, look into your car, at the passenger side floor, and in the back seat.
  • If you are parked next to a big van, enter your car from the passenger door.  Most serial killers attack their victims by pulling them into their vans while the women are attempting to get into their cars.
  • Look at the car parked on the driver's side of your vehicle, and the passenger side... If a male is sitting alone in the seat nearest your car, you may want to walk back into the mall, or work, and get a guard/policeman to walk you back out.

IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY. (And better paranoid than dead.)

6. ALWAYS take the elevator instead of the stairs.  Stairwells are horrible places to be alone and the perfect crime spot.  (This is especially true at NIGHT!)

7. If the predator has a gun and you are not under his control, ALWAYS RUN!  The predator will only hit you (a running target) 4 in 100 times; and even then, it most likely WILL NOT be a vital organ. RUN, Preferably in a zig -zag pattern!

8. As women, we are always trying to be sympathetic:  STOP  It may get you raped, or killed.

Ted Bundy, the serial killer, was a good-looking, well educated man, who ALWAYS played on the sympathies of unsuspecting women.  He walked with a cane, or a limp, and often asked 'for help' into his vehicle or with his vehicle, which is when he abducted his next victim.

9. Another Safety Point:  Someone just told me that her friend heard a crying baby on her porch the night before last, and she called the police because it was late and she thought it was weird.. The police told her  Whatever you do, DO NOT open the door.. The lady then said that it sounded like the baby had crawled near a window, and she was worried that it would crawl to the street and get run over.  The policeman said, 'We already have a unit on the way, whatever you do, DO NOT open the door.  He told her that they think a serial killer has a baby's cry recorded and uses it to coax women out of their homes thinking that someone dropped off a baby.. He said they have not verified it, but have had several calls by women saying that they hear baby's cries outside their doors when they're home alone at night.

10. Water scam!  If you wake up in the middle of the night to hear all your taps outside running or what you think is a burst pipe, DO NOT GO OUT TO INVESTIGATE! These people turn on all your outside taps full ball so that you will go out to investigate and then attack.  Stay alert, keep safe, and look out for your neighbours!  These tips should be taken seriously because the Crying Baby Theory was mentioned on America 's Most Wanted when they profiled the serial killer in Louisiana.

Young Adults Should Carry Pepper Sprays Too

I made sure that my 18 year old daughter doesn’t leave the house without carrying her keychain pepper spray. I’m glad that she has become accustomed to having it with her and now she knows to make sure she has it each and every time she walks out the door.

Pepper spray is one of the best protection devices on the market. I as a parent must educate my children in regards to protecting themselves and how. Pepper Spray makes a great self defense device for the young adults as well as us older adults.

Pepper Sprays are compact and can be carried just about anywhere. In your pocket, purse, jacket. Pepper sprays are also very easily operated and very affordable.

Pepper spray is an effective means of self defense and will help aid young individuals as well as us older crowd to ward off an assailant. Even adults would love to have it to help them escape in case of an attack.

My daughter and I now rely on using it and carry it with us at all times. It’s simply a self defense weapon that is helpful, small, affordable and easy to carry.

Pepper Spray is a very effective tool in self defense that teens and adults can carry with them anywhere. Parents always have their child’s safety concerns at the foreground and should consider a small pepper spray to keep their children safe whenever they leave home.

REMEMBER! No matter which form of self defense weapon you should choose to carry – if you don’t have it with you and easily accessible it won’t help you!

Stun Guns, TASER, which is right for you?

Men or women need to ensure their personal safety in the event of an attack. Individuals should provide themselves with a form of preparation if someone should try to harm you. Because of this it’s strongly advised that you take the time to make sure you are purchasing the right self defense weapon. Everyone is different and have distinctive tastes so what device might be right for you may not be right for the next person.

For many carrying a gun is not an option but feel that pepper spray may not be enough you might want to check into purchasing a stun gun or TASER.

Stun guns and TASER guns are not one in the same. With a stun gun you will be able to take down your assailant by utilizing a less-lethal short burst of high voltage shock. The stun gun is producing a charge of electricity to your attacker which will enable them long enough for you to get to safety or the authorities. This electrical charge confuses the attacker's nervous system.

Stun guns are hand held and run on batteries. Some stun guns today are rechargeable and plug in like your cell phone. Stun guns can charge through heavy clothing and if you should be touched while using the stun gun you will not feel the shock. The disadvantage of stun guns is you will need to be in close contact with your attacker in order to discharge the gun.

The TASER gun is made with the same technology as a stun gun and your attacker will react somewhat the same as being stunned with a stun gun. With the TASER you do not have to be in close contact with your potential attacker. The TASER gun utilizes cartridges which propels the barb wires that attach to your attacker and discharges electrodes as a stun gun. This will immediately take your attacker down.

The TASER presents advantages of not having to be within 15 feet of your attacker unlike a standard stun gun. The TASER can also be used as a backup stun device for that added extra zap.

These devices are both great forms of self defense weapons. What’s the difference between the two? Stun guns require you having close contact with your attacker. Stun guns are more affordable, less up keep and depending on which model you choose, smaller in the hand.

The TASER allows for up to 15 feet distance, more expensive and up keep is more costly as you need to purchase cartridges and magazines.

They are both great devices for self defense weapons. It just depends on which you would prefer and affordability. Make sure you check with your local and state laws prior to purchasing any less lethal weapon.

TASER is a great alternative for Self Defense

Maybe you are living in an apartment complex alone and you believe you are in a middle classed area which is known to be safe and quiet.  Many of the homes surrounding you are well kept with fine amenities, consequently making a great target for a burglar.  Many of your neighbors have professions which require daytime working hours; however your work requires you to frequently work night shifts.  You have become accustom to walking the dog during the day   when the neighborhood is quiet.  As you are walking your pup you notice a man wondering about, he is wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with his head covered, you have never seen this stranger before, and this has frightened you but you keep walking back towards your apartment.   As you approach your apartment you now have come upon this stranger as he was leaving your home through the back door. What do you do?  Can you out run him?  Can you physically fight him?  This indeed can happen to you.

Now you can find some relief knowing that less-lethal weapons are readily available for civilian purchases.  In today’s world with the crime rate increasing as I write this many people are taking control of their own protection needs by providing themselves with self defense weapons as the TASER gun.

The TASER gun is an incredible self defense device.  This wonder tool is designed to protrude two electrified darts up to fifteen feet with 50,000 volts of electricity upon contact.  These darts are adequate enough to knock down the attacker.    Don’t be confused with the stun gun, the striking difference between the TASER and the stun guns lies in the wattage, the TASER has almost twice the level of wattage of a stun gun. TASER guns are an exceptional self defense option for the individuals who are looking for superior protection without causing fatal harm to anyone.

The TASER delivers high voltage shocks with enough stopping power to take someone down to the floor immediately.  This self defense weapon called TASER interrupts the neuromuscular system so when in contact your attacker will not able to move for a few moments. You can also give your attacker another jolt with your TASER while he/she is down simply by utilizing it as a stun gun.  It is at this time you take advantage and get yourself to safety as quickly as possible.

This self defense weapon also allows you to shoot your attacker anywhere on their body and penetrates through almost 2 inches of clothing.  There isn’t another weapon on the market that has this capability.

TASER is a great choice in self defense weapon.  What are you carrying?
